Fringe Frequently Asked Questions

The Fringe is a festival of independent theatre: more than 180 productions in 42 venues, performing shows of all kinds! Local, national and international artists let loose to create the profound or risqué, new works or classics, for young and old and everyone in between.

And, while you’re waiting for a show, there are entire blocks of outdoor fun on our two Outdoor Stages and the KidsFringe » for the little ones, as well as street performers, buskers, vendors and artisans — not to mention the bonanza of people-watching!

No, the Fringe site can be quite crowded and pleasantly chaotic, so please leave your pets at home when you come to the Fringe.

We at the Fringe are sticklers for punctuality. With over 1,000 performances happening during the 11-day period, we need to be sure everything starts on time!

Patrons who arrive after the performance has begun will not be admitted under any circumstances. The makeshift nature of many of our venues and the intimate environment of the shows make latecomers extremely disruptive to the performance, so please do not try to enter if the doors are closed.

We recommend that you arrive 30 minutes prior to show start time to avoid disappointment.

Once again: we will not let you enter a venue once a performance has begun. If you leave the venue during a performance, you will not be allowed to re-enter it.

Refunds are only issued if there are cancellations or changes in the schedule of a performance. Such refunds are handled at the Central Box Office [located in lobby of TransAlta Arts Barns].

Since the money generated from ticket sales is transferred directly to the artists, the Festival is not authorized to offer refunds for any other reason.

Thank you! Donations are graciously received at:

100% of the revenue generated from ticket sales is returned directly to the artists, so the Fringe relies on donations from people like you to keep the festival running.
