Rise Up and Stage a Revolution
at the 28th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival

EDMONTON — The Revolution is coming! The Edmonton Fringe is about to Stage a Revolution in the streets of Old Strathcona and Edmonton! From August 13 – 23, 2009, more than 500,000 visitors are expected to watch over 1,200 indoor and outdoor performances in 29 venues. More than 700 artists from around the world will join forces to help Stage a Revolution at this year’s 28th annual Fringe Festival. This year’s theme, Stage a Revolution, challenges audiences and artists alike to open themselves to thought-provoking, zany, and often unorthodox theatre that is The Fringe.

There is more than one way to Stage a Revolution; visitors can enjoy indoor ticketed performances, be entertained by Street Performers at outdoor stages and busking circles, and attend free Fringe Forums. KidsFringe offers little Fringers their own area to watch interactive performances, play games, and create revolutionary artwork. And of course, there will be scads of vendors selling delicious food and Big Rock beer tents to help quench thirst on those hot August days.

New to the Fringe site this year is Revolution2, a hip new multi-use area along 85th Avenue. The revolution will continue past dark at the Fringe Cabaret Lounge, a newly converted space in the TransAlta Arts Barns. Rapid Fire Theatre and Fringe Theatre Adventures present Late Night Cabaret, a nightly variety show beginning at 12:15 AM in this licensed venue. The Fringe continues to reduce its carbon footprint with new green initiatives. Expanded recycling stations, water stations, and biodegradable cutlery, plates, and cups from every on-site vendor lead our green revolution!

The Festival Program Guide is a must-have resource for Fringe revolutionaries. Festival Program Guides cost $6 and go on sale today (July 28), at select locations around town and can also be purchased online for $6.

The 28th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival runs from August 13 – 23, 2009.
